If you are in the depth of winter and suffering from the effects of the snow, you might well dream of your next holiday under the sun. Have you considered spending your holidays in Mauritius? It may well have all the ingredients to make your sun-seeking trip a success.

Sun-filled destination

Mauritius is an island located in the Indian Ocean and enjoys a tropical climate all year round. Add to this sandy beaches and warm waters from turquoise lagoons all around the coast and the package is set. With such a stunning setting, many choose to get married in Mauritius. If the paperwork gets too complicated for some, they choose to spend their honeymoon there. There is no lack of honeymoon suite or luxury hotels and villas to cater for this class of holidaymakers. But if you are not getting married any time soon or have been married for years already, worry not, there are plenty of other choices for luxury accommodation in Mauritius. Most of the top hotels are found conveniently on the coast, which will suit tourists just fine.

Keeping busy

There are also plenty of activities to keep you busy. The beach is of course unavoidable and you might well be tempted to top up your tan but after a while, even the best beaches can become boring. Fear not, there is plenty more to entertain you. Without leaving the beach, you can find an array of activities to grab your attention. Fancy a boat ride? Sure, why not do a little island hopping and sail to one of the numerous small islands dotted around the country? The north has the highest concentration but some are protected because of environmental concerns. However, the islands are relatively far from the shore so are ideal for a day trip with barbecues on the catamaran and champagne to wash down everything. This is a standard package that you can get from various companies providing a day trip to these islands. On the east coast, you will find Ile aux Cerfs. This small island is close to the coast and close to the 5 star hotel Le Touessrock. It can get very crowded on this small island during the weekend but its fine sandy beaches are well worth the boat ride.

Big catch

Feeling more competitive? Why not try big game fishing? Things can get serious there and prices can climb rapidly but the prize is more than worth it if you want your picture taken next to a 500 kg marlin tuna that you hooked yourself from the depth of the ocean. Patience and stamina will see you succeed in this demanding sport. For those with a more gentle side, why not swim with dolphins? Head to Tamarin on the west coast. You can hire a boat to go snorkelling among the dolphins and touch them.

Make sure you don’t forget your camera with you when you travel to Mauritius, there will be plenty of opportunities to immortalise your stay. So pack up your stuff, don’t forget your hat, your swimwear and sun lotion and get on that plane. There’s plenty of fun awaiting you.
