Family destination – Alcudia Majorca

Posted by admin | Posted in Spain | Posted on 16-06-2010

Situated on the north west of Majorca, Alcudia is about 55 kilometres from Palma the island’s capital city. Alcudia itself is divided into two areas, the historic old town lying inland, and Puerto Alcudia on the coast. Puerto Alcudia is where most people stay when on holiday here and it is mostly due to the miles of golden sands that stretch from Port of Alcudia down to Playa de Muro, that the area has become so popular with families.

Alcudia bay, which is the best known of the beaches here, has wonderfully shallow waters that are warm, and with the large open sandy beach, it’s ideal for family fun. There are many hotels and pubs around the beach which are child friendly as well offering lots of places for families to eat or take a break from the water. A lot of these hotels will also pack a lunch for you at a small cost if you request it as well making it possible to spend the whole day on the beach if you wish to.

There are lots of other things in the area which make Alcudia very well suited to family holidays, the El Laberinto Maze fun park locally is specifically aimed at kids and families, it’s mazes are made from moveable panels so that they can change the layout, and there are many games within the maze to be played as well as pirates, monsters, and more. Its open daily from 10:30 in the morning till 10:30 at night, and is very popular.

The Hidropark, a water park is a great day out for everyone, with slides and chutes of different designs and to suit different ages. There are six different pools including an infant pool, wave pool and beach pool, and there are also mini motor boats to have a go in as well. Next door is a 54 hole super golf course, and the site also has bar, restaurants, and a large picnic area for people who prefer to take their own food along. Racing Passion Karting within the Bellevue hotel complex nearby is popular with adults and kids alike. It’s open from 9 in the morning till late at night which means that those who are daring enough can have a go at karting by floodlight which is a most thrilling experience.

A family day out on a catamaran can be very enjoyable, and the crystal clear waters around the area mean you can see a lot of the sea life that lives hereabouts quite easily.

Alcudia has a nice relaxed atmosphere, and most of the local restaurants and bars offer local cuisine and are happy to c
